Mercylife Training College in Kiambu has marked a major milestone with its inaugural graduation ceremony, celebrating its first cohort of trainees and underscoring the growing importance of skills based training in Kenya’s healthcare and service sectors.
The institution will hold its first graduation ceremony on October 9, 2026, at Village Inn, Kiambu, bringing together graduates, trainers, parents, guardians and other guests to celebrate the culmination of the trainees’ academic and practical training.
The ceremony marked a significant step in the college’s development as it seeks to equip young people and other learners with practical skills to improve their employment prospects and contribute to the delivery of essential services in their communities.
Under its philosophy of “Knowledge Skills Service,” Mercylife Training College says it is focused on preparing learners not only to acquire academic knowledge but also to develop practical competencies relevant to the workplace.
The Class of 2026 graduated after undertaking training in programmes designed to respond to demand for skilled personnel in healthcare, social services, hospitality and related fields.
Among the programmes offered by the institution are diploma and certificate courses in billing and claims management, phlebotomy, healthcare assistance and nurse aid, mortuary science, social work and development, as well as catering and housekeeping.
The college has positioned practical training and career development at the centre of its programmes, with experienced trainers and a learning environment intended to help trainees acquire skills applicable beyond the classroom.
The first graduation is therefore expected to provide an important platform for the institution to assess its contribution to skills development while giving graduates an opportunity to transition into employment, further education or entrepreneurship.
For the graduates, the ceremony represented the culmination of a journey that began with a decision to acquire professional skills and prepare for careers in fields that directly serve communities.
The institution has encouraged prospective students who wish to pursue careers in healthcare and other service oriented professions to consider skills based training as a pathway towards employment and professional growth.
Mercylife Training College is located in Kiambu, opposite Kiambu Law Courts, placing it within easy reach of learners from Kiambu and neighbouring areas.
The college is also continuing with its intake for prospective trainees, offering diploma and certificate programmes across its areas of specialisation.
Its healthcare-related programmes include phlebotomy and healthcare assistance, while billing and claims training provides an opportunity for learners interested in administrative and financial functions within the health sector.
The institution also offers mortuary science, a specialised area requiring technical competence and professionalism in the management of deceased persons and support to bereaved families.
Beyond healthcare, courses in social work and development, catering and housekeeping broaden the institution’s training portfolio and provide learners with opportunities to develop skills for different sectors of the economy.
The college says its training approach is aimed at preparing learners for a changing labour market by combining knowledge acquisition with practical skills and professional values.
The graduation comes at a time when technical and vocational education and training institutions are increasingly being viewed as critical to addressing youth unemployment and equipping young people with skills demanded by employers.
Mercylife Training College says its objective is to continue “training today’s learners to care for tomorrow’s world” by producing graduates capable of applying their skills in workplaces and communities.
The inaugural graduation also provides the college with an opportunity to strengthen its links with industry and employers while encouraging future trainees to pursue careers based on practical competence.
For the graduating class, however, the ceremony was more than a formal academic event. It marked the beginning of a new phase in which the skills acquired during training will be put to use in workplaces and communities.
As the institution opens its doors to another group of learners, its message to prospective trainees is that career development begins with taking the first step towards acquiring relevant knowledge and practical skills.
