Residents from Mburiria village on the outskirts of Kiambu town finally have a reason to smile after years of struggling to reclaim the only public land in the village.
Surveyors from both the national and county governments spent the better part of the day measuring and locating the boundaries of Plot No. 1109, as the map reads, where the beacons were finally identified, putting an end to years of struggle.
According to Anastacia Wahu, a community leader who has been at the forefront advocating for the rights of people from the area, the community had been tirelessly visiting every office to ascertain the plot’s ownership and location. Its discovery was met with excitement. “There is no office under which we have not set foot to claim what is ours, and seeing surveyors here has given us a glimmer of hope. Indeed, our struggles have not been in vain,” Wahu noted.

She said that the need for the construction of an ECDE Centre was long overdue, as parents have been struggling to find centres for their children. “They have been walking long distances to Kangoya and Karunga or even Gichocho, which is very far and unsafe for their children,” she added.
They thanked Kiambu Governor Dr. Kimani Wamatangi for considering their request to put up the centre, expressing hope for job creation, citing the construction site and other businesses that accompany such ventures.
