Kiambu Member of Parliament Machua Waithaka has stepped up road rehabilitation works across the constituency, with two key roads in Riabai Ward undergoing improvement under the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
The ongoing works on Gitamaiyu Link Road and Waironjo Road in Kirigiti involve grading, compaction and murraming, in a move expected to improve access to homes, businesses, farms and other essential facilities served by the roads.
The projects are part of Mr Waithaka’s continued push to address the constituency’s infrastructure needs through practical interventions aimed at improving the condition of local roads.
For residents who rely on the routes daily, the rehabilitation is expected to ease movement and reduce the difficulties associated with poorly maintained roads, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
The works also come at a time when growing settlements and increased economic activity in parts of Kiambu have placed additional pressure on the local road network.
Mr Waithaka said the rehabilitation programme was driven by the need to provide residents with safer and more reliable transport links.
“We have commenced grading, compaction and murraming of Gitamaiyu Link Road, Riabai Ward as part of our continued commitment to improving road infrastructure and enhancing accessibility for our residents,” the MP said.
He added that the project would improve mobility and strengthen connectivity while making transportation safer and more convenient for motorists, pedestrians and businesses that depend on the road.
The same intervention is being implemented along Waironjo Road in Kirigiti, where grading, compaction and murraming have also commenced.
The two projects are expected to provide an important link between residential areas and major roads, while supporting the movement of people and goods within the ward.
For small traders and other businesses operating along the routes, better roads can translate into easier access for customers and suppliers and lower transport-related challenges.
Farmers and households are also expected to benefit from improved access, particularly in the movement of farm produce and essential supplies.
