Leaders have been urged to avoid playing insulting politics, saying it was setting a bad precedent to young people.
A Kiambu-based politician Stephen Waweru, who is also popularly known as “Western,” said that it was bad for opposition leaders to keep on insulting President William Ruto.
Waweru says that the constitution recognizes the president as the symbol of national unity, adding that those insulting Ruto do not love this country, as they were insulting Kenyans whenever they spread politics of hate.
Waweru warned that calling someone a “thief, kasongo, and any other derogatory names” was wrong, urging them to stop and change their style of politics.
”Some words in the politics had been overtaken by time. We are living in a country where facts were needed; we need to be told the truth and with a respectful language,” he advised.
”Some claims that someone has done something to be called this or that are dangerous since one must have evidence. What if someone is arrested and charged for insulting and spreading allegations, would they have evidence to prove that someone is a thief in the court of law?” he says.
He applauded Ruto for keeping peace, even as he is called all those names and allegations leveled against him.
”Our president is a peace-loving man. He is always speaking about development. We are urging him to continue working and serving Kenyans,” he says.
”We shall judge him with the work he has done. A lot of supporters are happy with him and cannot pay attention to the opposition. I’m sure he will win and serve this country for another term,” he added.
He was speaking to young people in Limuru town, where he urged them to keep peace all the time.
”We have a government that needs respect. It was serving the republic in an open manner. We have seen changes in education, health, infrastructure, and trade. All are aimed at improving the economy and livelihood of all Kenyans,” he said.
