Kiambu Member of Parliament, Hon. Machua Waithaka, has signaled a new era for the constituency’s education sector, announcing a massive infrastructure rollout, a transition to renewable energy, and a significant surge in university transition rates for local students.

In a series of high-level consultative meetings held with both primary and secondary school heads, the legislator reaffirmed his commitment to the “Yangu Ni Kazi Tu” (My Work Only) philosophy, emphasizing that education remains the cornerstone of his development agenda.

During a plenary session with principals of all day secondary schools, MP Machua highlighted the success of the Free Day Secondary School program. The MP confirmed that all day secondary schools within the constituency remain free of charge, a move aimed at ensuring 100% transition and accessibility for learners from vulnerable backgrounds.

“The number of students from our day secondary schools joining university this year has increased tremendously,” Machua noted. “This is a strong indicator that our targeted interventions and the dedication of our teaching staff are bearing fruit.”

The meeting, which focused on academic performance and infrastructure, was attended by a high-powered delegation including Education Officers led by Sub-County Director of Education, Mr. Paul Kigaya, the NG-CDF team, and representatives from the ‘Tap to Eat’ program.

The MP also met with primary school headteachers and TSC representative Ms. Faith Kirimi to coordinate the next phase of school upgrades. At Riabai Primary School, a new perimeter wall and modern gate are nearing completion, coupled with the construction of gabions to prevent soil erosion.

In an effort to stimulate the local economy, the MP noted that all labor for these projects is sourced from local residents. The next phase for Riabai and surrounding schools includes:

    • Comprehensive classroom renovations (including full tiling).
    • Installation of cabro paving across school compounds.
    • New ablution blocks and professional landscaping.

In a bold move toward sustainability, Ndumberi Primary School has officially become the sixth institution in the constituency to be fully solar-powered and 100% off-grid. This follows successful installations at Tinganga HGM and St. Joseph Riabai, among others.

“By investing in solar energy, we are guaranteeing uninterrupted learning and eliminating the burden of electricity costs,” said Hon. Machua. Along with the green energy shift, Ndumberi has received a fully equipped Junior Secondary School (JSS) laboratory to support the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

Beyond the classroom, the MP spent time with the Jitume ICT Hub Ndumberi fraternity during their end-of-year celebrations. The discussions centered on digital literacy and the “gig economy,” exploring how Kiambu’s youth can tap into global online work opportunities.

While encouraging the youth to innovate, the MP also urged them to take up their civic duties. “I encouraged them to register as voters so they can exercise their constitutional right in 2027,” he added.

As the constituency heads into the new academic year, the MP’s multifaceted approach—combining infrastructure, technology, and financial accessibility—is setting a high benchmark for regional development under the banner of #FundiWaMaendeleo.
