Kiambu Member of Parliament Machua Waithaka has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming road infrastructure across Kiambu Constituency, with multiple road tarmacking projects currently underway and others scheduled to commence as part of a broader connectivity and development agenda.
Several key roads have already entered the construction phase, signaling what the MP describes as a fulfillment of his development pledge to residents. Among the projects that have commenced is the tarmacking of the ACK Kanunga–Palmview–Mungai Chengecha Road, a critical link expected to ease movement and enhance access to residential and commercial areas. Works are also ongoing on the Kanunga Shopping Centre ring road, which is set to significantly improve traffic flow within the busy trading hub.
Excavation works are currently underway on the Turitu–Kiratina link road in preparation for tarmacking. According to the MP, the road forms part of a deliberate plan to ensure all four wards within the constituency benefit from durable and reliable road networks.
“All our four wards must have good road networks. Penye hatujafika, tutafika. I ask for patience and continued support as we deliver on this commitment,” Waithaka said, emphasizing that development will reach every corner of the constituency.
Other roads earmarked for tarmacking under the ongoing programme include the Ngegu–Edenville Road, the Mungai Chengecha–Palmview Road, the access road leading to Kanunga High School, and additional sections around Kanunga Shopping Centre. Excavation works on the Ngegu–Edenville Road are already in progress, a development expected to improve connectivity to Kiambu Road and ease traffic congestion in the area.
A major highlight of the infrastructure push is the tarmacking of the Kiamumbi Highway, which officially commenced and is progressing steadily. The project marks a historic milestone for residents, as it is the first time a road in Kiamumbi is being tarmacked since independence. The project is expected to be completed early next year.
“This is about delivering results and improving the everyday lives of our people. My leadership remains steadfast in ensuring modern, reliable and accessible road networks that support business growth, mobility and sustainable development,” Waithaka said.
Meanwhile, the Thindigua–Laurette–Windsor Road is nearing completion, with residents already reporting improved movement and increased property values. The MP also revealed that with the planned expansion of Kiambu Road into a dual carriageway, expected to begin in February 2026, several spur roads from Muthaiga to Ndumberi will be opened and tarmacked to further enhance connectivity and reduce congestion.
Residents have welcomed the projects, citing improved business prospects and living conditions. Hellen Njeri, a food vendor in Kiamumbi, said the tarmacking has brought relief after years of dealing with dust from gravel roads.
“For many years we struggled with dust, which was not good for business. Now the road is being tarmacked, the environment is better and more customers can access our hotels easily,” Njeri said.
Anthony Numi, a resident of Ngegu, noted that the tarmacking of access roads linking to the Kiambu Road highway will be crucial once construction of the dual carriageway begins.
“These access roads will offer alternative routes for motorists and reduce congestion, while also protecting homes from dust,” Numi said.
Waithaka maintained that the road projects are already contributing to increased land value and accelerated development within the constituency.
“I promised the people of Kiambu that I would tarmack major access roads connecting our towns. Today, residents are witnessing tarmack roads where none existed before. This has brought development and will continue to raise property values,” he said.
The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) engineer in charge of the projects, Kennedy Sengera, assured residents that the roads are being constructed to high quality standards, complete with proper drainage systems to ensure durability and long-term service.
As works continue across the constituency, the MP reiterated his development mantra, “Yangu ni kazi tu,” insisting that more infrastructure projects are in the pipeline as part of his commitment to delivering on promises made to the people of Kiambu.
