Kiambu Constituency has witnessed a major boost in the education sector following the efforts by Member of Parliament Machua Waithaka to equip schools with modern learning facilities and improve infrastructure.

Machua presided over the handover of mobile Junior Secondary School (JSS) laboratory equipment to primary school headteachers from various schools across the constituency.

The initiative, undertaken in partnership with the School Equipment Production Unit (SEPU), aims to enhance science learning and prepare students adequately for upcoming national examinations.

“These mobile labs will enable our students to effectively prepare for their exams. However, this is just an interim step,” the MP said. “My leadership is fully committed to constructing permanent, state-of-the-art laboratories in all our schools.”

The event brought together key education stakeholders, including Father Paul Maichuhie of Riara Catholic Church, Sub-County Director of Education Mr. Stephen Kigaya, SEPU Chief Executive Officer, members of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) team, teachers, parents, and pupils.

Machua reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to improving education standards, noting that access to modern and well-equipped learning environments remains a cornerstone of his development agenda.

As part of this drive, the MP also announced the completion and equipping of a modern Home Science Laboratory at ACK St. Joseph Riabai Day Secondary School. The facility will allow students to gain hands-on experience and practical skills vital for daily life and future careers.

“At Riabai, we want our learners to learn by doing, not just reading. Practical learning empowers them to apply knowledge in real-world situations,” he remarked.

In addition, the MP unveiled an ongoing comprehensive facelift at Riara Secondary School, where all classrooms are being renovated with new tiles, replaced roofs, and repainted walls. The project aims to restore the school’s dignity after years of neglect.

“Our goal is to create a modern, safe, and inspiring environment for both students and teachers,” Machua stated, adding that more schools in the constituency would benefit from similar projects under the CDF program.

Residents and education stakeholders hailed the MP’s commitment to transforming education in Kiambu, describing his initiatives as timely and visionary in bridging resource gaps and improving learning outcomes.

Step by step, Kiambu’s education landscape is changing — and under Machua Waithaka’s leadership, the constituency continues to make tangible progress toward delivering the promise of quality education for every child.
