Kiambu Member of Parliament Machua Waithaka has unveiled an ambitious youth empowerment initiative that combines sports, digital skills development and financial literacy, with the inaugural Kiambu Indoor Games Tournament – Season One set to begin on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Ndumberi Jitume ICT Hub.
The tournament, billed as one of the largest indoor sporting events ever organized in Kiambu Town Constituency, is expected to attract hundreds of young participants from across the constituency in a variety of competitive disciplines aimed at identifying and nurturing talent while encouraging positive youth engagement.
The competition will feature an extensive lineup of indoor games and activities including chess, scrabble, badminton, darts, draughts, table tennis, dancing competitions and several other recreational events. Organizers have also announced attractive prizes for winners in different categories as part of efforts to motivate participants and celebrate excellence.

Waithaka thanked the many young people who had already registered for the tournament, expressing confidence that the event would provide an opportunity for participants to showcase their talents while fostering friendship, discipline and healthy competition.
He said the initiative is part of a broader youth empowerment agenda designed to create constructive platforms where young people can develop their abilities, interact with their peers and gain exposure that could open doors to future opportunities.
The legislator noted that sports remain an important tool for social development, helping keep young people engaged in productive activities while promoting teamwork, leadership, confidence and personal growth.
Beyond sports, Waithaka reaffirmed his commitment to equipping young people with practical skills needed to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
Speaking after joining youths undergoing Trading and Stock Market training at the Ndumberi Jitume ICT Hub, the MP emphasized that digital and financial literacy have become indispensable skills for the modern workforce.
He said the training, offered free of charge, is helping prepare young people for careers in the digital economy while exposing them to emerging opportunities in online trading, entrepreneurship and global employment.
“In today’s digital world, these skills are no longer optional; they are essential. They open doors to employment, entrepreneurship and countless opportunities both locally and globally,” Waithaka said.
He challenged parents across Kiambu Constituency to ensure that students who have completed their secondary education do not remain idle at home but instead enroll at the Ndumberi Jitume ICT Hub to acquire market-driven digital skills.
According to the MP, the ICT hub has become a critical learning centre where young people receive training that enhances their competitiveness in both local and international job markets while encouraging innovation and self-employment.
The legislator observed that empowering youth through education, technology and sports provides a holistic approach to addressing unemployment and social challenges affecting young people.
Residents have welcomed the twin initiatives, saying they offer meaningful opportunities for young people to discover their talents, improve their employability and participate in constructive community activities.
The indoor games tournament is expected to draw large crowds of competitors, families and sports enthusiasts, transforming the Ndumberi Jitume ICT Hub into a vibrant centre of sporting excellence, entertainment and youth interaction.
The event forms part of Waithaka’s ongoing development agenda under the slogans “Yangu Ni Kazi Tu,” “Machua Delivers,” and “Fundi Wa Maendeleo,” which emphasize practical development programmes focused on youth empowerment, skills development and community transformation.
With sports, digital innovation and financial education taking centre stage, the tournament is expected to mark the beginning of an annual platform dedicated to discovering talent, building careers and inspiring the next generation of leaders in Kiambu Town Constituency.
