As Kenyans from various parts of the country converged to celebrate this year’s Mazingira day , Kiambu county was not left behind in observing the day. The celebrations held at Thindigua Primary School saw Kiambu people being enlightened on the importance of marking the day previously celebrated before as Moi day.

Speaking during the event Kiambu county Forest officer Nelly Saina, said that the trees they chose to plant fruits producing trees since they were beneficial both to the people and the environment. Mrs Saina further said Fruits were part of a good diet and needed to be in plenty across various parts of the country hence the need to have them in plenty.

On his part Kiambu DCC Titus Macharia urged the residents to enhance plantation of more trees as they served as a proper forest cover as 70 percent of Kenya was dry land. He said they were in course of distributing part of the 32billion trees the Government was planning to have the trees planted by the year 2032.

The distribution of tree seedlings across various parts of Kiambu County is ongoing in all Government offices.
