Police in Kiambu are investigating the overnight demolition of a 45-metre section of a perimeter wall under construction at Kiambu High School, raising concerns over the safety of 1,650 students, including candidates sitting their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
The incident has left part of the school compound exposed, prompting calls for urgent security measures to prevent unauthorised access and protect learners during the examination period.
School principal Joshua Nderitu reported the incident to police, who arrived at approximately 4:35 a.m. to document the damage and secure the scene.
School Board Chairman James Kuria Mutura said the wall was intended to strengthen security and prevent unauthorised entry into the institution, particularly following reports of theft involving intruders who allegedly accessed the school through the surrounding bush.
“With candidates currently sitting their KCSE examinations, the damaged perimeter has heightened fears that a security breach could expose learners to potential intrusion and disrupt the calm required for them to concentrate on their papers,” he said.

Parent-Teachers Association Chairman Laban Ogusi has called on the Kiambu County Commissioner to intervene urgently and provide additional security, warning that the exposed boundary could leave students vulnerable to further threats.
Ogusi said the incident had also disrupted construction of the wall, which is funded through parents’ contributions. More than 70 skilled and unskilled workers have reportedly been sent home following the destruction.
Kiambu Sub-County Police Commander Elema Hassan Sore confirmed the incident, citing a longstanding boundary dispute involving the school and neighbouring properties.
“Police are investigating whether the dispute could be linked to the demolition as officers work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible,” he said.
Hassan assured the school community that the National Police Service would prioritise students’ safety and provide security as candidates continue with their examinations.
He added that investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the destruction.
