Kiambu County Sees Surge in Business and Infrastructure Developments

Kiambu County is witnessing rapid transformation through major infrastructure investments, agricultural support, and innovative business ventures. As these developments unfold, they bring both opportunities and challenges to the region’s economic landscape.

Kiambu Road Upgrade to Dual Carriageway
Kenya has secured a KSh 37.2 billion ($286.1 million) loan from China to upgrade Kiambu Road into a dual carriageway. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve access to businesses along the route. While it promises to boost trade and connectivity, looming evictions of residents and businesses pose short-term disruptions.

TOP KING SERVICE CENTER Launching on Kiambu Road
A new venture, TOP KING SERVICE CENTER, is opening next to Evergreen Business Center. It features Kenya’s first 360° automated car wash, along with tyre services, smart diagnostics, mechanical repairs, and solar energy solutions. The center will generate jobs and meet the rising demand for modern automotive services, positioning Kiambu as a hub for tech-driven enterprises.

Agricultural Support: Dairy Sector Gets a Boost
Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke handed over a 5,000-litre milk cooler to the Ndarugu Dairy Farmers Co-operative Society. This initiative aims to reduce post-harvest losses, enhance dairy efficiency, and increase farmer income—strengthening the dairy value chain and reinforcing agriculture’s role in Kiambu’s economy.

Real Estate Developers Clash with County Government
Real estate firms have raised concerns over delayed project approvals, threatening legal action and protests. Developers argue that bureaucratic bottlenecks could stall growth in the region’s booming housing sector. With plans to grant Thika city status, resolving these disputes is essential to maintaining investor confidence.

Modern Bus Park in Ruiru to Empower Traders
Governor Kimani Wamatangi is spearheading a new modern bus park in the O.J. area, Ruiru. The project includes 200 free kiosks for traders, road upgrades, cabro paving, and improved drainage. It aims to uplift small businesses and enhance Ruiru’s commercial appeal.

Revenue Collection Ranks Kiambu Third in Kenya
Kiambu County collected KSh 3.3 billion in revenue, ranking third nationally after Nairobi and Narok. This reflects strong economic performance and opens up avenues for reinvestment in infrastructure and public services.

Kiambu County is emerging as a key economic player in Kenya. From infrastructure upgrades and agricultural programs to entrepreneurial innovation, the region is positioning itself for sustainable development. Addressing real estate tensions and managing community impacts will be vital as the county navigates its growth trajectory.
