Ward legislators in Kiambu County have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to security agencies in Kikuyu Sub-County demanding the arrest of individuals who attacked the Kiambu Assembly Leader of Majority, Godfrey Muceke.
The MCAs said Muceke was struck on the head with a stone by suspected goons during a bursary issuance event in Karai Ward, Kikuyu Sub-County. The function, which was attended by Kimani Wamatangi, was disrupted by a group of rowdy youths who stormed the venue.
During the chaos, the attackers allegedly smashed a vehicle window before hurling a stone that hit the Majority Leader on the forehead, leaving him unconscious. He was rushed to Kikuyu Private Hospital for first aid before being transferred to another facility for specialized treatment.
Led by Kiambu Assembly Deputy Speaker John Njiru, the ward representatives condemned the attack and demanded swift action from the Kikuyu Sub-County Police Commander, warning that failure to arrest the perpetrators within 24 hours would raise serious concerns over security operations in the area.
The MCAs also faulted the security team for allegedly failing to provide adequate protection during the Governor’s public function, questioning why such incidents continue to occur within Kikuyu Sub-County. Kabete Ward MCA Grace Hinga criticized the delay in arrests nearly 20 hours after the incident was reported, terming the situation suspicious and calling for thorough investigations.
The leaders urged residents to pray for the quick recovery of the Majority Leader. Kiambu Assembly Majority Chief Whip Nelson Munga warned that continued attacks by hired goons would force leaders to consider measures to protect themselves, adding that intimidation would not derail development programs in the county.
Karuri Ward MCA Patrick Wainaina appealed to youths across the Mount Kenya region to resist being used by politicians to cause chaos and instead allow leaders to serve Wananchi peacefully ahead of the next General Election.
The MCAs maintained they remained united in supporting the county leadership and vowed to pursue justice for their injured colleague. Caption; 1. Deputy Speaker John Njiru 2, Grace Hinga Kabete Ward 3, Majority Whip Nelson Munga 4. Patrick Wainaina Karuri Ward.
