A meeting between Kiama Kia Ma elders from Githunguri and Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Charles M. Thiong’o has set the stage for fresh consultations on the political and development direction of Githunguri Constituency.

The Speaker met officials of the Kiama Kia Ma Githunguri Sub-County chapter at his office at the County Assembly of Kiambu, in an engagement that brought community elders into discussions on issues affecting the constituency and the wider county.

The delegation, led by chapter chairman Solomon Kihara Wanderi, used the meeting to present their views on matters of concern to residents and the community, signalling the growing role of traditional and community leadership in shaping the political conversation ahead of the 2027 elections.

Although details of the discussions were not made public, the engagement is likely to fuel wider consultations among community leaders and political actors seeking to establish a common position on Githunguri’s leadership and development priorities.

Githunguri has traditionally been a politically influential constituency in Kiambu, with its leadership often attracting keen interest from competing political camps.

The involvement of Kiama Kia Ma elders in the consultations could also provide an important platform for community dialogue as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the next General Election.

Mr Thiong’o welcomed the delegation, stressing the importance of engaging elders and community leaders in addressing challenges facing residents.

He said sustained dialogue with community representatives was essential in understanding issues affecting the people and finding practical solutions.

The Speaker’s meeting with the elders comes at a time when political leaders across Kiambu are increasingly stepping up grassroots consultations, with community networks expected to play a significant role in shaping political alliances and voter choices ahead of 2027.

For the elders, the engagement provided an opportunity to put community concerns directly before one of the county’s senior political leaders, while for Mr Thiong’o, it offered a platform to listen to views from Githunguri as the county navigates an increasingly active political landscape.

The meeting is expected to pave the way for further consultations on the constituency’s leadership, development priorities and the interests of residents as political activity gathers pace.
