Condolences pour in as Kenyans mourn the passing of Kiambu Senator Karungo Thangwa’s mother.

Kenyans from all walks of life, including various leaders, have joined the family of the Kiambu Senator in mourning his mother.

The news of the passing of 93-year-old Lucia Wangui Thangwa was shared through an emotional Facebook post shared by the Senator on his official page.

”This afternoon we have lost our dear mother, Lucy Wangui Thangwa, also known as Nyina wa Martin. For many years, my mother battled dementia,” the post read.

Continuing with the post, he added, “I am not sure she ever got to know I was elected a senator in Kiambu.”

”But every time I saw her, sat with her, or spoke to her, I found the strength to keep going. She may not have remembered many things in her final years, but she, together with our late father, raised 13 children with love, sacrifice, and discipline. Rest in peace, Mum,” he wrote.

Leaders, led by DP Leader Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, took to Thangwa’s page to convey their condolences.

In his post, Gachagua described the deceased as a true matriarch who raised all her children to be disciplined, in the true way a mother raises her children, including the Senator.

Her parents hail from Gathirimu, Ngewa Ward in Githunguri, Kiambu, where Thangwa was first elected as the area MCA in 2013.

He is the last born in the family and fondly refers to himself in the post as “your 13th.”
