KIAMBU, Kenya – Karuri High School is embarking on a significant fundraising drive to complete a vital modern laboratory and office block, crucial for enhancing the learning environment and accommodating the demands of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). The initiative, spearheaded by the school’s fraternity, aims to raise KSh 4 million through a charity walk and contributions from various stakeholders.

Established in 1964 with a modest student population, Karuri High School has grown remarkably to now serve 1,400 students. The ongoing tuition block construction is an ambitious project that includes four laboratories, six classrooms, and three offices, along with two preparation rooms. This building endeavor commenced approximately three years ago as a parent-led initiative but has faced delays due to prevailing economic challenges.

To galvanize support and generate the necessary funds, the school has organized a charity walk set for Saturday, March 29th, starting at 7 a.m. The walk will commence at the school grounds, traverse through Gacharage and Muchatha, and conclude back at the school compound.

Coinciding with the walk, Karuri High School will also officially launch its strategic plan for the next five years, covering the period from 2024 to 2028. This plan outlines the school’s vision and development goals for the coming years.

Participation in the fundraising walk is structured with different contribution tiers. Students are encouraged to be sponsored by their parents, with a contribution of KSh 1,500, which includes attire for the event. Teachers, members of the Board of Management (BOM), and the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) are requested to register with KSh 2,000, which covers a t-shirt and cake.

The school anticipates raising approximately KSh 2 million from student sponsorships, with the remaining funds expected to come from alumni and friends of the school.

The principal emphasized the critical importance of the new block, particularly in light of the CBC, which mandates that 60% of students pursue science subjects. The school plans to allocate five classes to STEM subjects, three for humanities, and one for arts, underscoring the need for state-of-the-art laboratory facilities.

A heartfelt appeal has been extended to individuals and organizations to support Karuri High School, recognizing its significant role in educating students from Kiambu County and surrounding sub-counties, including those from Kiambu town, Kikuyu, and Limuru. The successful completion of this project will undoubtedly provide a conducive learning environment for current and future generations of students.
