Patrick ‘Jungle’ Wainaina, the 2022 Kiambu gubernatorial candidate, has announced his intent to run for Kiambu County Governor in 2027. After narrowly losing to incumbent Governor Kimani Wamatangi, Wainaina expressed his determination to contest “come what may.”
In a recent Facebook post, he urged Kiambu’s youth to register as voters with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), which is set to resume voter registration soon. “If you have not registered as a voter, register now. If you live and work in Kiambu but vote elsewhere, transfer your vote to Kiambu,” Wainaina wrote, emphasizing that young people could add over 500,000 votes to reshape the county’s electoral outcome.
Wainaina highlighted the power of the ballot, stating, “With one decisive act, we can kill two birds with one stone: end the (Ruto) mess and restore sanity to Kiambu’s healthcare system, which the current county leadership has utterly neglected.” He added, “The ballot is our tool.”
The former Thika Town MP also revealed he will run on the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) ticket, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The 2027 race remains competitive, with Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a and Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba having previously expressed interest in the governorship, though their current intentions are unclear.
