Jubilee Leaders Call for Transformative Leadership as They Mark International Women’s Day in Githunguri

Leaders affiliated with the Jubilee Party used the celebrations of International Women’s Day at PCEA Komothai Church to call for transformative leadership and greater inclusion of women in political decision-making.

Speaking during the event in Githunguri Constituency, Kiambu Jubilee chairman and aspiring senator George Maara said the day offered an important moment to celebrate women and recognize the vital role they play in society.

Maara noted that women form the backbone of families and communities, describing them as mothers, wives, sisters and daughters whose contribution to nation-building must be acknowledged through meaningful leadership and opportunities.

“Women are extremely important in our lives. They are our mothers, our wives, our sisters and our daughters. It is time that we give women the respect and recognition they deserve,” he said.

He argued that meaningful change could only be achieved if voters elected leaders who understand the needs of ordinary citizens and champion transformative policies.

According to Maara, one of the mistakes made during the 2022 Kenyan general election was electing leaders who were more focused on transactions rather than transformation.

“One of the biggest mistakes we made in 2022 was electing leaders who are transactional instead of transformative. If we correct that in 2027, we will be able to address many issues affecting our people, including matters that concern women,” he said.

George Maara Jubilee party chairman kiambu county and aspiring for Senator seat joined by Kiambu women in leadership.

Maara reaffirmed the strength of the Jubilee Party, describing it as a national political outfit with a track record of leadership in the country.

He reminded residents that the party previously produced the country’s fourth president, Uhuru Kenyatta, and held a majority in Parliament and several county assemblies.

“Jubilee remains a national party. People know its history and the role it has played in this country. That is why you are seeing renewed interest and enthusiasm from Kenyans who want to reconnect with the party,” he said.

Maara added that the party’s focus at the county level is to field candidates for all elective positions in Kiambu in the next general election, including the governor, senator, woman representative, Members of Parliament and Members of County Assembly.

He also expressed support for former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as a potential presidential candidate, saying his leadership record had earned national recognition.

“We already have a formidable presidential candidate in Dr. Fred Matiang’i. Kenyans know him and have seen his work. I believe the country would benefit greatly from his leadership,” Maara said.

Also speaking during the event, Kiambu woman representative aspirant Dr. Martha Njeri emphasized the critical role mothers play in shaping the nation and nurturing future leaders.

She described mothers as the pillars of society who hold families and communities together.

“Today is a very special day for mothers who have held this country together. Mothers are the ones who bring society together and give birth to the leaders of this nation,” she said.

Dr. Njeri urged political parties and voters to create more opportunities for women to participate in leadership and governance.

She noted that women often face significant challenges when seeking elective office, including intimidation and lack of respect despite their contributions to society.

“We ask that mothers be given the opportunities they deserve to hold political positions. Women leaders must be treated with respect and given equal chances to serve,” she said.

Dr. Njeri also appealed to residents of Kiambu County to elect leaders who would prioritize development, education, healthcare and support for farmers.

She said effective leadership should focus on improving livelihoods and addressing the real challenges facing residents.

“This is the time for the people of Kiambu to choose leadership that will uplift everyone, bring development, strengthen education and protect healthcare while supporting our farmers,” she said.

The leaders urged residents to remain united and participate actively in shaping the county’s political future as the country gradually shifts focus toward the 2027 electoral cycle.
