The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) officially inaugurated its Editorial Board for the 2025-2030 term on December 16, 2025. This event represents a significant development in the institution’s publishing mandate. Eng. Prof. Alex Muumbo will serve as the chairman of the newly appointed board. The ceremony highlighted the organization’s commitment to maintaining its scholarly and professional standards.

Key leadership figures attended the inauguration ceremony to oversee the transition. Attendees included the IEK President, Eng. Shammah Kiteme, and the outgoing Editorial Board Chairman, Eng. Prof. Lawrence Gumbe. Members from both the incoming and outgoing boards were present at the event. The gathering symbolized a structured and orderly transfer of authority as the new team formally accepted their editorial responsibilities.

During the official handover, the outgoing Editorial Board expressed strong confidence in the incoming team’s capabilities. They noted that a solid foundation currently exists to guarantee the continuity and growth of the editorial function. The departing members emphasized that the new board is well-positioned to build upon previous successes within the engineering publishing landscape.

In response, the incoming Editorial Board members registered their gratitude for their selection to the role. They acknowledged the support provided by their predecessors. Specifically, the new team cited the value of the guidance and mentorship offered by the outgoing board during the transition period. This exchange underscored a spirit of collaboration between the two groups.

The board reaffirmed its specific role as the primary custodian of the institution’s intellectual property. This responsibility extends to the intellectual assets of the wider engineering fraternity. Members pledged to uphold the highest ethical standards regarding publication. They emphasized the importance of integrity in the dissemination of engineering knowledge and technical research.

Furthermore, the board committed to promoting the work of African researchers. This focus aims to sustain and advance the legacy established by previous editorial teams. By highlighting regional research, the board intends to elevate the visibility of African engineering contributions on a global stage. The commitment aligns with broader goals of fostering local academic growth.

The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) serves as the learned society for the engineering profession in the country. It operates alongside the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), which acts as the statutory regulatory body. Professional editorial boards within such organizations typically oversee the peer review and publication of technical journals. These publications facilitate the exchange of specialized knowledge among engineering professionals.
