Githua Wamacukuru: Driving Transformation in Kabete Constituency

When Githua Wamacukuru, the current Kabete Member of Parliament was elected in 2017, many people who didn’t know his development nature took him for granted. Much to their chagrin, he has since made significant strides in transforming his constituency through numerous development initiatives. Some of his notable achievements include infrastructure development where he has prioritized road construction and rehabilitation, with notable projects including the Kibiku-Gathiga-Njathaini road and the Wangige-Ngecha road among tens of others in the sub county which neighbours Kenya’s capital city Nairobi.

“These projects aim to ease transportation bottlenecks, reduce travel time, and promote economic activity between us and Nairobi as well as our neighbouring constituencies,” he told Kiambu Observer on Saturday, October 11, 2025. In matters education, the soft spoken MP who is an ardent supporter of President William Ruto has been a strong advocate for education, providing bursaries to the needy students in the constituency. Its noteworthy that he derived the name Wamacukuru which loosely translates to, “a schools person” from his absolute commitments to improve education in the area even before he became a legislator.

His education transformation initiative aims to ease the financial burden on families and ensure continued access to education for learners from underprivileged backgrounds. When it comes to water and health care provision in his constituency, the MP has focused on improving water supply and healthcare services in all the 5 wards in the area. In a nutshell, Wamacukuru has detailed ongoing works in roads, water supply, street lighting, and health facilities, affirming that Kabete is firmly on the path of transformation.

With the constituency being home to 5 wards namely Uthiru, Gitaru, Kabete, Muguga and Nyathuna, the law maker has also invested heavily on the economic empowerment of his constituents. This he has done through supporting small-scale traders by advocating for the construction of modern markets, featuring smart stalls, storage spaces, cold rooms, and administrative offices. The ambitious initiative has significantly boosted the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector, providing sustainable economic opportunities for thousands of families.

The MP’s commitment to people-centered leadership has earned him recognition as one of the top-performing MPs in Kenya. His leadership style has been described as accessible, action-oriented, and results-driven, making him a transformative leader who listens, acts, and delivers for the people of Kabete. Kabete was split in 2012 from the large and populous Kikuyu constituency with the late George Muchai being its first representative in the August House between 2013-2015. Following his (Muchai) yet to be resolved cold blood assassination, Ferdinand Waititu took over before James Githua Kamau alias Wamacukuru took the reins of power in 2017 to date.
