The Free Weekend Academy, a youth empowerment initiative in Kiambu County, is gearing up for its fourth season, as announced by Kiambu Constituency MP Hon. Machua Waithaka. The program, organized in collaboration with the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) Kiambu, aims to equip young people with essential skills and opportunities to thrive in a competitive world. The orientation for Season 4 is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 2 PM at the NGCDF Tower in Kiambu, opposite the Kiambu Police Station.

The Free Weekend Academy has become a cornerstone of youth development in Kiambu, offering free training programs focused on leadership, personal growth, and practical skills. According to IYF Kenya, the initiative emphasizes mindset change and holistic development, targeting young people from diverse backgrounds across the county. Previous seasons have included workshops on entrepreneurship, communication, and career planning, with participants gaining access to mentorship and networking opportunities. The program’s accessibility, with no registration fees, has made it a vital resource for youth from underserved communities.

Hon. Waithaka, who has championed the initiative, highlighted its impact during a recent graduation ceremony at Ndumberi Stadium on June 22, 2025, where participants completed various short courses. The MP’s office has partnered with IYF to expand the program’s reach, ensuring more young people in Kiambu benefit from its offerings. The upcoming season is expected to continue this trend, with tailored sessions designed to address the needs of the county’s youth, particularly in areas like job readiness and personal development.

Local leaders and community members have praised the Free Weekend Academy for its role in fostering self-reliance and economic empowerment. However, some residents have called for greater outreach to rural areas within Kiambu to ensure inclusivity. Organizers have indicated plans to address these concerns by potentially decentralizing sessions to sub-counties like Thika, Juja, and Limuru.

As Kiambu County navigates challenges such as youth unemployment and recent unrest, the Free Weekend Academy stands out as a proactive effort to empower the next generation. With Season 4 on the horizon, the program continues to offer hope and practical solutions for Kiambu’s young people.
