A former Member of County Assembly in Kiambu has defended the leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party Rigathi Gachagua from critics that he does not have an agenda for the country once he takes over its leadership.

Former Lari Kirenga MCA Joseph Karichu said the allegations are being spread by politicians who do not support the opposition. He termed them as baseless, unfounded and cannot hold any water. However, the high cost of living that is being felt by Kenyans has led to many Kenyans to support the opposition so as to defeat the current government in the forthcoming general elections, Karichu said.

“The fear the government and its supporters have is loud. Everyone can feel it. The high cost of living has affected a lot of people and more so the young people” Karichu said. He said that politicians cannot seek for an elective seat without an agenda, adding that Gachagua aims at lowering the cost of living for all Kenyans regardless of age, sex, religion and tribe.

“He aims at lowering taxes and other levies so as to ensure he has created a conducive environment for Kenyans and more so the youths to start businesses. It is only the businesses that can create other job opportunities and keep our country busy” he said. He noted that youths who are couples and others who are single have obligations that are now bothersome.

“Our young people have school going children, have rented homes and are meeting other obligations such as paying for electricity, water and even WiFi every month, remember our country wsa growing, but it has stopped” he added. However, Karichu also noted that Gachagua also aims at improving health services so that all people can afford and to ensure they are served well at all health facilities.

The former MCA who has declared his interest in the Member of Parliament seat for Lari constituency was speaking at Kimende town. “I feel that there are so many things that we can do together to improve the lives of our people. There are jobs but there needs to be created paths so that our people and especially the jobless youths can access them” he said.

Karichu however reveals that he has been speaking to locals in all five wards of the constituency while seeking their support. The aspirant applauded DCP delegates from Kiambu county for agreeing to support Gachagua as their Presidential candidate in the 2027 general election. He faulted analyst’s who were spreading messages that Gachagua will name the party’s presidential candidate as the election comes close.

“We were a bit confused since you cannot build a house and when the house is complete then you invite another person to start living in it. It’s impossible. I thank him for declaring his interest ” he said. A political analyst Simon Karanja said that Karichu is known for the projects he initiated and were completed during his tenure which run from 2018 up to 2022. “We can point at projects which are realised during his tenure such as hospitals, water drilling and connection, upgrading of access roads, motivation, sports and even public participation. He is a man to watch as he is well connected with the locals” Karanja said.
