Football teams in Kiambu County have applauded the Kiambu County Government for its support and the exposure to standardized stadiums.

Players noted that Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s efforts to ensure there were stadiums in each sub-county was motivating for the players.

A player, Simon Wachira, said teams will be working hard to ensure they have the best talents in their teams before holding tournaments in those fields.

“The fields will expose our talents to what modern stadiums are all about. We are used to playing on bare grounds or those with just grass, but today, we are happy. We have moved upward, and we shall continue moving upwards,” he said.

Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi and Ndeiya MCA Nelson Munga after the Ndeiya field was officially opened.

He spoke at Ndeiya Stadium on Sunday soon after Wamatangi officially opened the field.
Area Member of County Assembly (MCA), Nelson Munga, said locals had been seeing such fields in other sub-counties, adding that the county government was serious about mentoring and nurturing football talents.
Munga, who is also the Kiambu Assembly Chief Whip, said the field will positively impact locals, as youths in the area are avid football fans.

He urged teams from the wards to nurture talents and to hold tournaments in the field, adding that they will be exposing talents to international standards.

“We have talents in this region. They only need to be exposed. We might see them playing for national teams and even international teams. Ours is to motivate, nurture, and support,” he said.

Wamatangi and Munga were accompanied by Kiambu Assembly Speaker Charles Thiong’o, Nyathuna MCA Eddie Kinyanjui, and Sports Executive Osman Korar (CECM).

After the field was officially opened, a Wamatangi County football tournament match was played between Githunguri Seniors FC and Butteries FC, with Githunguri winning through penalties.

The Governor motivated the teams by handing over a trophy to Githunguri Seniors, as well as a Sh500,000 cash prize and medals to each player.

The runners-up, Butteries FC, received medals for each player and a cash prize of Sh250,000 for the team.

The Governor pledged to support the tournaments with the assistance of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), so as to keep team players busy.
