The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has officially removed financial sanctions previously imposed on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF). This decision allows for the immediate resumption of development funding under the FIFA Forward Programme. The world football governing body communicated this change in a letter dated December 15, 2025.

The move follows a review by the FIFA Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee (GACC) during a meeting on December 8, 2025. According to the federation, the committee responded positively to the progress made following a central audit review. Consequently, the suspension of funds has been lifted effective immediately.

Despite the reinstatement, the federation remains subject to continued oversight. FIFA mandates a monthly reporting mechanism regarding the use of Forward funds. This requirement will persist until at least the next GACC meeting, which is scheduled for March 2026.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed expressed approval of the development, characterizing it as a major step in the organization’s ongoing reform efforts. In a statement, Mohammed described the decision as a significant vote of confidence. He noted that the administration is gradually repairing Kenyan football by enhancing governance and restoring credibility.

The federation indicated that these resources are essential for various domestic initiatives. Specifically, the resumed funding will target grassroots development, infrastructure projects, and capacity building. The FKF pledged to utilize the funds transparently for the growth of the sport across the country.

The FIFA Forward Programme provides comprehensive funding to support football development globally based on specific criteria. Sanctions or suspensions of this funding typically occur when member associations fail to meet governance, audit, or compliance standards. The FKF serves as the governing body for football in Kenya, overseeing national teams and leagues.
