Effective leadership focuses on empowering others, a Kiambu County politician has said.
Stephen Ngigi said leaders should set strong examples where they come from by supporting their electorate to develop further and excel in their lives.
Ngigi, who is eyeing the Lari Kirenga MCA seat in next year’s general elections, says that when people are empowered, poverty is reduced in society.
”When a leader empowers the people who elected them, they turn their vision into reality rather than just holding titles,” he said.
”When you are a leader, never lose a chance to support people with the available opportunities. Fight for those opportunities to benefit the people around you. People are walking every day looking for jobs because, with a job or without, life has to continue,” he said.
”When you support people to improve what they do to earn their daily bread, or find a job vacancy and ensure someone who is qualified from your locality has gotten that chance, you’ll have reduced poverty in society,” he said.
He spoke at Githirioni village in Lari Kirenga ward, Lari Constituency, where he donated a tent with 50 plastic seats to the Kanyabai Self Help Group.
He also supported the group by registering it with the Social Development Office and acquiring a certificate.
”So many opportunities and chances for development pass by people whose groups are not registered, but with a certificate, lobbying for anything—be it seminars or funds—can be easy,” he said.
Ngigi at the same time urged all women and youth groups to register themselves with the government so that they can be known.
The group leader, Njeri wa Luka, thanked Ngigi for the support, saying that they have been empowered since they will use the tent and chairs for many years.
Ngigi says that empowerment is what helps many people to develop, saying all people were created by God with different abilities.
”Never disregard any help you can give to the people of an area. The impact you make will live to be not only remembered but will also help generations and generations,” he noted.
