Do not be misled by politicians, riders advised – MP Kahangara

Lari Member of Parliament Mburu Kahangara has called on boda boda operators to remain vigilant and not be swayed by politicians seeking support for the 2027 general elections by urging them to reject President William Ruto’s government programs. He criticized politicians who are undermining the government’s efforts, falsely promising to deliver projects like road construction that are already underway. Kahangara emphasized that these politicians are misleading voters by claiming they will initiate projects that the current government is already addressing.

Addressing the riders directly, Kahangara reminded them of their contribution to public infrastructure through the taxes they pay when fueling their motorcycles. He stressed that these taxes fund the construction, repair, and maintenance of roads, which directly benefit the riders. “In fact, you are the people who should speak loudly seeking better roads. You pay taxes when you fuel your motorcycles, and those taxes go straight to construct, repair, and maintain those roads,” he said. He questioned the logic of supporting politicians who ask voters to wait for future promises, asking, “Do you give your taxes to the government of the day or to the people expecting to form one?” By doing so, he dismissed opposition figures for attempting to deceive the electorate.

Kahangara highlighted the achievements of the Ruto-led government, noting that it is delivering on its 2022 campaign promises. He pointed to the ongoing construction of the Mau Mau road as an example, explaining that sections passing through Nyanduma and Kamburu wards are complete, significantly improving movement in those areas. He added that work continues in Lari Kirenga, with plans to extend the road to Nyambari, Escarpment, Kijabe, and Maai Mahiu, further enhancing connectivity in the region.

Speaking at the Full Gospel Churches of Kenya in Nyambare town church, Lari Kirenga ward, Kahangara addressed over 300 boda boda riders during an empowerment event. He encouraged them to adopt sound financial practices, such as opening accounts in a savings and credit cooperative (sacco) or forming their own. “It is very important to have a revolving fund where one can save and borrow in times of need,” he advised, stressing the importance of financial independence.

Kahangara also acknowledged the riders’ role in creating their own employment opportunities, noting that the government cannot employ every graduate entering the workforce each year. “The government has created an environment where all Kenyans can create jobs to sustain their lives,” he said, pointing out that the number of graduates far exceeds the number of public service retirees. He reaffirmed his commitment to empowering riders across all five wards of his constituency, recognizing their efforts in sustaining their livelihoods.

The boda boda riders, led by their chairman Joseph Macharia, commended Kahangara for his support of President Ruto. They expressed confidence that legislators elected under the ruling party, like Kahangara, would continue to receive state support to deliver on their mandates, reinforcing their trust in his leadership and the government’s initiatives.
