Hon. Winfridah Mokaya, the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, today visited Kiambu Law Courts to evaluate service delivery gaps and explore targeted administrative interventions aimed at enhancing efficiency and access to justice.

The court’s leadership, led by Hon. Justice Dorah Chepkwony and Hon. Zipporah Gichana, highlighted several operational challenges currently affecting service delivery. These include acute office space limitations, a high case backlog, security vulnerabilities, and broader resource constraints.

Among the most urgent priorities identified were the expansion of physical infrastructure and the strengthening of security systems within the court premises.

Ongoing renovations at Kiambu Law Courts

During the visit, the Chief Registrar—accompanied by the Deputy Director of the Department of Construction and Maintenance Works, the Director of Accounts, the Director of Supply Chain Management, and other senior management officials—inspected the ongoing expansion works at the court.

The expansion project will deliver nine additional courtrooms and nine chambers. Once completed, it is expected to significantly ease space constraints, enhance safety for judicial officers, staff, and court users, and facilitate the deployment of more judicial officers.

This will be instrumental in reducing the current case backlog and improving overall service delivery.

The project, scheduled for completion in December 2027, is anticipated to substantially strengthen access to justice for residents of Kiambu County.
