Horticultural and dairy farmers in Lari constituency are a happy lot after the government affirmed it’s commitment to construct more roads in the area.

Deputy President Prof Kindiki Kithure said that the government will ensure that all contractors will leave the roads they are working on having completed the work they are doing.

He said that a section of Mau Mau road project which was launched by President William Ruto from Nyambari Kijabe to Maai Mahiu was complete.

Lari MP Mburu Kahangara speaking at Nyambari trading center in his constituency where he had hosted Deputy President Prof Kindiki Kithure.

He noted that others that will join it from Matathia, Kimende, Ha Kagoru, Githirioni up to Kagaa where it will join the other part of Mau Mau road was ongoing.

“We want to ensure that the whole constituency is open. We want to create opportunities and ease movement” the DP said.

Speaking at Nyambari trading center where he was inspecting the 47 kms Nyambari, Uplands Ruiru road, Prof Kindiki said that the road will open movement between Lari, Githunguri and Ruiru constituencies.

He was accompanied by Lari MP Mburu Kahangara who said that for a long time, locals have been suffering over poor road network.

He said most of the locals were horticulture farmers working on kales, spinach, carrots, cabbages, and fruits. The legislator also said others rear dairy cows.

“Our farmers have been suffering for many years because of roads. When it rained, no one could take their produces to the market or to a go down where they are bought. When it’s sunny, transporters charge them so high leaving them counting losses, claiming that their vehicles gets damaged” he said.

“Today, since some sections are complete, transporting milk and other farm produces is excellent. It has been eased. Within a short period of time, all our earmarked roads to be tarmacked will be completed and movement will be easy” Kahangara said.

The MP applauded the government for considering Lari’s farmers owing to the fact that their region has fertile soil, conducive weather for horticulture and dairy farming and accepted to tarmac some of their major roads.

The DP revealed that, the government had set aside Sh 152 billion to construct 1,656 kilometers of roads in Kiambu county.

Prof Kindiki also noted that, 368 kms of roads are complete having used Sh 20 billion.

He urged the locals to prioritise of following up on developments being conducted by the government, instead of wasting time to follow up on politics of critics on what the government was doing.

A dairy farmer Hannah Njoroge from Nyamweru said that she used to pour alot of milk and at times feeding it to neighbours dogs after failing to be collected.

“The lorries which used to come to collect milk some a year ago, would fail to come when it rains. It would get stuck in the mud. There was a time it overturned at a place we call Kwaregi” she said.

“During such times, we would feed our milk to our neighbour’s few children who do not have cows. The rest you either pour it or feed it dogs. Today, we do not, we have seen that the government has heard our prayers” she added.

Kahangara urged the locals to support the Ruto’s government, adding that it has placed all electorates prayers into consideration.

Kahangara was with other MPs James Githua Wamacukuru (Kabete), John Njuguna (Kiambaa) and Alice Ng’ang’a (Thika Town).

After the inspection of the roads, the DP also inspected the ongoing construction of the Economic Stimulus Program market which is under construction at Nyambari at a cost of Sh 152 million
