Aspirant Karichu Urges Lari Locals to Pray for Peace Amid Early Campaigns

“President William Ruto’s administration is the only government in the country’s history that Kenyans have rejected after only a short period in office,” an opposition politician said.

Former Lari Kirenga Member of County Assembly (MCA) Joseph Karichu said Kenyans lost confidence with the way the government handles issues concerning health and education.

However, Karichu urged residents to remain calm and pray for the country’s survival and peace, given that the 2027 general election campaigns have started so early.

The politician has declared interest to contest for the Lari MP seat on the ticket of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

He is asking church leaders and the locals to pray that the UDA government finishes its term peacefully, and not for an extension.

“At times people feel like they can just chase the leaders of this government, but we elected them with a lot of hope. Let them finish their term peacefully,” he said.

He spoke at the funeral of John Njoroge Kamau in Gitithia village, Lari Kirenga ward, Kiambu County.

Karichu added that the government changed how health insurance was handled by the defunct National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Authority (SHA), adding that many people had suffered.

“So many people were affected, especially when they went to the hospital and the SHA would fail to cover them, unlike how the NHIF used to do,” he noted.

He noted that another issue is how the government is handling capitation for primary and secondary school learners, forcing parents to dig deeper into their pockets so that the schools can meet their annual budgets.

Karichu believes the new government that takes over will streamline all public issues.

“The government will review the health sector, health insurance, and also revert the Edu-Afya capitation on schools, among other issues. The economy will also be improved so as to bring down the high cost of living,” he noted.

Full Gospel Churches of Kenya Kiambu West Bishop Macharia Kahonoki asked the government to keep its promise of tarmacking the Nyambari, Uplands, Githunguri, Ruiru road.

The cleric said locals using that road had suffered due to too many potholes, frequent vehicle breakdowns, and the resulting avoidance by public service vehicles.

“The road is important to our economy since a lot of milk and tea are transported from farms through that road,” he said.

Locals led by Simon Kiminda said they need to elect a person who knows the challenges facing locals as an MP.

The former MCA will face off with incumbent Mburu Kahangara, who was elected on a UDA party ticket.

Kiminda clarified that Karichu served only one term but did not lose his MCA seat because he opted to contest for the parliamentary seat, which he subsequently lost.
