As next year’s general elections start taking shape, some politicians have advised Mt Kenya region to remain vigilant and resist being divided.
A politician cum analyst has criticised the opposition for misleading locals from President William Ruto’s government, a move that risks leaving the region in the opposition after the 2027 polls.
Stephen Waweru who is also known as “Western”, has urged Mt Kenya residents to just listen to the opposition but retain their support to Ruto’s government.
He warned that, if the region is left in the opposition having voted poorly to the president and with elected leaders from the opposition, it will be hard for them to lobby for development.
“We will all be viewed as opposition. We need to grow together with the rest regions of this country”, he said.
Waweru urged locals to follow Ruto’s deputy Kithire Kindiki since he has been entrusted by the head of state to run issues relating to the Mt Kenya region.
Waweru dismissed Gachagua’s style of politics, saying he was propelled by anger of how he was impeached from Deputy President’s seat.
“Mt Kenya region cannot suffer because someone was impeached. All other issues he was raising were just mere allegations. As a region, we will not be pushed by allegations to move against the government ” he said.
The politician also raised concern over how the opposition was insulting the president, senior politicians and other government officers.
He said the seat was holding need a lot of respect, urging former president Uhuru Kenyatta to speak with them have respect to the head of state.
“If former head of state asked politicians who supports the government to stop insulting Gachagua and they stopped, what can’t Uhuru do the same to the opposition” he said.
He said the head of state including his cabinet, government, supporters are angered by Gachagua and his allies when they call him all sorts of names.
Waweru also said they were also angered by the opposition for criticising the religious leaders for visiting President at the State House.
“Nearly all church leaders are concerned when Gachagua and his allies visit President at State House. Which other president of Kenya are they supposed to visit?”, he wondered.
“The president has the freedom of visiting all churches once invited and they are so many. These church leaders feel good when they visit someone who visits them. There is no problem at all” he added.
Waweru also wondered, “why does Gachagua attend these church services?”
” Another question is that, what do church leaders and even members learn from him, has he ever being told or asked? I’m sure he would be surprised. He should take a lot of care while handling politics of this country” he added.
Speaking at a breakfast meeting with politicians at Limuru town in Kiambu county, Waweru asked Gachagua to seek an apology from Ruto, leader of the Majority in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wa for direct political attack during the requiem service of former Ol Kalou MP Njuguna Kiaraho last Wednesday.
He also urged the Democratic Citizens Party leader to refrain from tribal politics.
He reminded politicians that the government had employed more teachers within three years and also also improved health services policy including the creation the Social Health Authority.
Waweru also noted that the president was busy improving and expanding the Nairobi Mau Summit highway from Kamandura in Limuru sub county.
“When the construction started, so many young people were engaged on casual jobs. Others like women have gotten jobs of selling food to these workers by running food kiosks” he said.
