In a move set to transform how Kenyans access digital content, Airtel Money has announced a strategic integration with streaming giant Showmax. The partnership introduces a seamless payment solution, allowing customers to subscribe to and renew their entertainment packages directly from their mobile wallets.

The collaboration arrives at the height of the festive season, targeting millions of Kenyans looking for hassle-free access to local and international content during the holidays. By adding Airtel Money as a direct payment gateway, the two companies are removing traditional barriers to digital subscriptions, such as the need for credit cards or complex banking transfers.

Anne Kinuthia-Otieno, Managing Director of Airtel Money Kenya, emphasized that the move is part of a broader strategy to diversify the utility of the Airtel Money wallet.

“Through this partnership with Showmax, we are providing a smooth and reliable payment experience that delivers a fast, safe, and convenient way for customers to stay connected and entertained,” said Kinuthia-Otieno. She added that the collaboration reinforces Airtel’s commitment to high-impact innovations that meet the evolving needs of the Kenyan consumer.

MultiChoice Kenya Managing Director, Nzola Miranda, highlighted that the integration is designed to put the consumer first. By streamlining the transaction process, fans of the Premier League and local drama series can maintain their subscriptions without interruption.

“This partnership removes payment barriers and ensures that customers can seamlessly access Showmax Entertainment, Showmax Entertainment Mobile, and Showmax Premier League Mobile,” Miranda noted.

The new system allows users to activate their accounts in five simple steps:

    • Visit the Showmax website and select ‘Sign Up.’
    • Choose your preferred subscription plan (Mobile or All-Device).
    • Select Airtel Money from the list of payment options.
    • Enter your Airtel mobile phone number.
    • Authorize the transaction by entering your Airtel Money PIN on your handset.

The integration covers the full suite of Showmax offerings, ensuring sports fans and movie buffs alike are catered to:

    • Showmax Entertainment: Full access to movies and series on all devices.
    • Showmax Entertainment Mobile: Affordable access tailored for smartphone users.
    • Showmax Premier League Mobile: Live streaming of all 380 Premier League games.

This partnership marks a significant step forward in Kenya’s fintech and media landscape, signaling a shift toward more integrated, user-friendly digital ecosystems just as families gather to celebrate the year’s end.
