Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Charles Thiong’o has intensified engagements with residents of Githunguri Constituency as he positions himself for the parliamentary race, visiting several areas of the constituency and attending community events over the weekend.

Mr Thiong’o used the engagements to interact with residents, listen to their concerns and discuss issues affecting households and businesses across the constituency.

Speaking after the visits, the Speaker said the meetings were part of efforts to develop a people-centred development blueprint that would guide his agenda should he be entrusted with the responsibility of representing Githunguri in Parliament.

“We are using these engagements with our people to formulate a people-centred blueprint which we intend to roll out in our constituency once we are entrusted with the responsibility of leading them,” Mr Thiong’o said.

He said his priority would be to work with residents to address challenges facing the constituency while seeking to restore what he described as Githunguri’s position as an economically vibrant area.

The constituency is widely associated with dairy farming and a strong agricultural economy, with many residents engaged in milk production and other agribusiness activities.

Mr Thiong’o said the economic contribution of local farmers and entrepreneurs should remain central to any development plan for the constituency.

He described Githunguri residents as hardworking and enterprising, adding that the area’s agricultural potential could be further harnessed to improve livelihoods and create opportunities for young people.

The weekend engagements come as political activity begins to take shape ahead of the next electoral cycle, with prospective candidates increasingly turning to grassroots meetings to build support and understand voters’ priorities.

Mr Thiong’o said he was ready to continue engaging residents and refining his agenda based on their views.

“We are raring to go and commit to putting our best efforts to restore the glory of our great constituency,” he said.

His continued grassroots mobilisation is expected to place him among the political figures seeking to shape the conversation around Githunguri’s future and the issues likely to influence voters in the constituency.
