The Government has intensified its drive to bridge Kenya’s digital divide following the official launch of three new digital hubs in Ol Kalou Constituency, Nyandarua County, in a move aimed at enhancing digital inclusion, creating employment opportunities, and equipping young people with skills for the modern digital economy.

The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, Hon. William Kabogo, EGH, presided over the commissioning of the digital hubs located in Wiyumiririe, Passenga, and Mirangine. The launches form part of the Government’s nationwide initiative to establish digital innovation centres across the country, bringing technology closer to underserved communities.

Speaking during the launches, Kabogo said the facilities represent another milestone in the Government’s commitment to ensuring that every Kenyan, regardless of location, has access to digital opportunities that can transform lives and livelihoods.

“The digital hubs are designed to empower our youth, students, entrepreneurs and small businesses by providing access to affordable internet, digital skills training, online employment opportunities, innovation spaces and government digital services,” he said.

The hubs have been established through a partnership between the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy and the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF). They are expected to become centres of innovation where residents can acquire practical ICT skills, access online work opportunities, and develop technology-driven business ideas.

While commissioning the Wiyumiririe Digital Hub, the Cabinet Secretary described the facility as an important investment in the future of young people in Nyandarua County. He noted that the hub would serve as both an innovation centre and a learning space, enabling residents to build digital competencies that are increasingly in demand in today’s job market.

Kabogo said bringing digital infrastructure closer to communities would not only improve access to information but also promote innovation, entrepreneurship and economic empowerment.

Earlier in the day, he officially launched the Mirangine Digital Hub, describing it as another significant milestone in the Government’s ongoing rollout of digital hubs across the country. He said the facility would provide reliable internet connectivity, digital literacy programmes, access to online jobs and various government digital services.

According to the Cabinet Secretary, such investments are central to the Government’s strategy of creating employment through Information and Communication Technology (ICT) while strengthening Kenya’s transition into a knowledge-based economy.

The day’s programme also included the commissioning of the Passenga Digital Hub, which has been equipped with fully functional computers to support learning, innovation and digital entrepreneurship.

Kabogo observed that the hub would play a critical role in empowering young people with practical digital skills while expanding access to affordable internet services. He added that the availability of modern ICT equipment would enable learners and entrepreneurs to participate competitively in Kenya’s rapidly growing digital economy.

The three hubs are expected to benefit thousands of residents by providing access to online education, digital government services, innovation programmes and remote employment opportunities. They will also support local entrepreneurs seeking to leverage technology to expand their businesses and access new markets.

The launch underscores the Government’s broader commitment to accelerating digital transformation through expanded ICT infrastructure, increased digital literacy and inclusive access to technology. Officials believe the initiative will significantly contribute to job creation, innovation and socio-economic development, particularly among the youth.

As Kenya continues implementing its digital transformation agenda, the establishment of community digital hubs is expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring that no region is left behind in the country’s journey towards a digitally empowered and knowledge-driven economy.
