Residents of Mwikiho in Ruiru Constituency, Kiambu County, have benefited from a major empowerment initiative spearheaded by Kiambu County Woman Representative Anne Wamuratha through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).

The empowerment program, which brought together hundreds of residents from the area, saw the distribution of a wide range of equipment and essential items aimed at supporting small businesses, empowering youth and women groups, and assisting vulnerable members of the community.

Speaking during the event, Wamuratha said the initiative was part of ongoing efforts to uplift grassroots communities economically and socially through practical support programs that directly address the needs of ordinary wananchi.

Among the items distributed were carwash machines to support youth-led carwash enterprises, market umbrellas to shield traders from harsh weather conditions, and motorbike umbrellas for boda boda riders operating within the constituency. Beauty and salon businesses also received UV machines, salon sinks, hair dryers, and blow dryers to help expand and improve their operations.

Food vendors and small-scale entrepreneurs were not left behind, with the distribution of smokies trolleys, chips fryers and cutters, juicers, and chafing dishes aimed at boosting food-related businesses and increasing income opportunities for beneficiaries.

The program also focused on social welfare and inclusivity, with white canes distributed to visually impaired persons, adult diapers provided for vulnerable individuals, and blankets donated to elderly residents to offer warmth and comfort.

In addition, helmets were distributed to promote road safety among boda boda operators within the constituency.

Wamuratha reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that empowerment programs continue reaching grassroots communities across Kiambu County, saying leaders have a responsibility to create opportunities that improve livelihoods and reduce economic hardships.

“As leaders, our focus remains on empowering wananchi from the grassroots and ensuring no one is left behind. We will continue working closely with the people to create opportunities, support small businesses, and uplift every corner of Kiambu County through practical empowerment programs,” she said.

Residents who attended the event welcomed the initiative, noting that the support would go a long way in helping them grow their businesses and improve their living standards amid tough economic times.

The event also included the distribution of food to all attendees, creating an atmosphere of unity and community support as leaders interacted directly with residents.

The NGAAF empowerment program forms part of broader government and leadership initiatives aimed at promoting economic inclusion, youth empowerment, women entrepreneurship, and support for vulnerable groups at the grassroots level.
