The Government has intensified its infrastructure and rural development agenda in Imenti South Constituency following a high-profile development tour led by Kithure Kindiki on Friday.
During the visit to Rubiri Market, the Deputy President conducted a public sensitisation forum, inspected the newly completed Nkubu–Rubiri–Kamurita road, and assessed progress on the ongoing rural electrification programme aimed at transforming livelihoods in the region.
Prof. Kindiki praised the quality and timely completion of the 11-kilometre Nkubu–Rubiri–Kamurita road, which was constructed at a cost of Sh630 million, terming it a major milestone in improving transport connectivity and stimulating economic growth in the area.
He noted that the newly tarmacked road would significantly ease the movement of goods and people while boosting trade and agricultural activities for farmers and small-scale traders in South Imenti.
“The Government is satisfied with the quality of work undertaken on this crucial road project. This infrastructure will open up the region economically and improve the livelihoods of residents,” said Prof. Kindiki.
The Deputy President further announced that the Government is accelerating electricity connectivity to remaining households and business premises in the area under the Last Mile Connectivity Programme.
During the inspection tour, he reviewed the ongoing Rubiri Village Last Mile Electricity Supply Project, which is targeting 85 households. The project forms part of the wider Sh2.3 billion electrification programme intended to connect an additional 26,500 households across Meru County to the national power grid.
According to Prof. Kindiki, access to electricity will play a critical role in enhancing local productivity, supporting small businesses, and improving living standards for residents.
Addressing wananchi at Rubiri Market later in the day, the Deputy President outlined additional infrastructure projects earmarked for the region, saying the Government would prioritise the tarmacking of the Kionyo–Kanyakine–Mitunguu road as well as the Kieni Kia Ndege–KK Mworoga–Maraa–Kithino–Mitunguu road.
He also pledged increased support for dairy farmers through the supply of additional milk coolers to strengthen milk collection and reduce post-harvest losses.
In a further boost to urban development, Prof. Kindiki announced that Nkubu and Mitunguu townships would receive Sh240 million for the upgrading of their urban road networks to improve mobility and business operations.
The development tour was attended by Isaac Mutuma, Kathuri Murungi, Shadrack Mwiti, Moses Kirima, Members of County Assembly, local leaders, and hundreds of residents.
Leaders present welcomed the Government’s renewed focus on infrastructure development, saying improved roads and electricity connectivity would unlock economic opportunities and accelerate growth across the greater Meru region.
