Zetech University is the latest Kenyan University to be admitted to the Association of African Universities (AAU) as it seeks to broaden its research and collaborations horizons.
AAU is a premier continental body representing over 360 higher education institutions across Africa. The University management says that the admission is a significant milestone that underscores its growing footprint in higher education.
Vice Chancellor Prof Njenga Munene averred that the achievement marks a defining moment in the University’s journey of academic excellence, innovation, and strategic growth, further solidifying its position as a credible institution with an expanding continental and global footprint.
Founded in 1967 and headquartered in Accra, Ghana, the Association of African Universities serves as the voice of higher education in Africa, fostering collaboration, advancing research, and shaping policy across the continent.
The Association of African Universities is a continental organization that promotes collaboration, quality assurance, and the advancement of higher education across Africa, serving as a vital platform for cooperation and policy engagement among African universities.
The VC noted that the institution’s admission into this prestigious network is a strong affirmation of its growing credibility and alignment with both regional priorities and global academic standards.
“Our admission into the Association of African Universities brings us it into a dynamic community of universities, research institutions, policymakers, and development partners across the continent, unlocking new opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange,” Prof Munene said.
The Vice Chancellor added, “Through this partnership, we anticipate the growth of cross-border academic and research initiatives, enhanced faculty and student mobility, and the continued harmonisation of academic programmes in line with continental frameworks. It will also provide a valuable platform for the University to actively contribute to dialogue and action on key issues shaping the future of higher education in Africa.”
He quipped that the university is committed to delivering quality, industry-relevant education while advancing research and innovation that respond to real-world challenges.
Prof Munene maintained that by engaging in AAU-led programmes and initiatives, the University will continue to strengthen its institutional capacity and broaden its impact, ensuring that its graduates are equipped with the skills and competencies needed in an increasingly interconnected world.
AAU Secretary General Prof. Olusola Bandele Oyewole reiterated that the admission of Zetech University into the Association of African Universities reinforces the University’s strategic vision of expanding their global footprint while remaining firmly anchored in addressing Africa’s development priorities.
“This partnership opens up meaningful opportunities for collaboration in sustainable development, digital transformation, research, and innovation, further strengthening the contribution to socio-economic progress both within Kenya and across the continent,” he said.
Zetech University Deputy Vice Chancellor in Charge of Academics Prof Alice Njuguna asserted that the latest milestone builds on the University’s growing international recognition, coming shortly after its admission into the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) earlier this year, further affirming the University’s credibility, its alignment with globally recognized standards in higher education, and its commitment to driving impactful research and innovation that contribute to sustainable prosperity in Africa and beyond.
