Police have launched investigations to establish how a 30 years old man drowned into a dam at Gathwariga area in Kinale ward in Lari constituency.

The body was retrieved from the dam by the Kiambu county divers from the fire fighting department.

It was reported that the man was noticed on Monday, but it later sank in the waters.

Confirming the incident, Lari sub county police commander Emily Ngaruiya said the body could not be traced and the divers had to wait until it floated.

She said on Tuesday, it floated and they removed and took to Uphome Furenal Home as investigations goes on.

“As of now, we do not know how he drowned, but we are following leads to know how he drowned” the commander said.

However, locals have called upon the government to ensure all dams are fenced, since a lot of people pass near them.

A local religious leader Pastor Paul Mugo noted that the dam is open, adding that nearby Bathi dam is also unfenced.

“Living with unfenced dams in this area is risky. People walk near them and there is a likelihood of someone falling inside and drowning” the cleric said.
