    MP Mburu Kahangara Unveils Free Irrigation Water Project for Lari Residents

    Residents of the regions that dries up in Lari constituency will benefit with farming water from the State Department of Irrigation.

    Lari Member of Parliament Mburu Kahangara said the region has fertile soil, but suffers strong sun that affect food crops planted.

    He explained that food crops also suffers stunted growth at an early stage and later dries up, leaving locals without any harvest.

    Lari MP Mburu Kahangara addressing residents of Gitithia location in his constituency during a members of the public sensitisation on irritation on Wednesday.

    Kahangara said residents of region which includes Mbauini, Machani, Kabunge, Escarpment and Gitithia have been depending on relief food from the government.

     

    However, at a meeting with residents at Gitithia shopping center, the legislator revealed that he approached President William Ruto and requested that the residents can be supported with irrigation water.

    “We take this opportunity to thank the president for keeping his word. Today, we have a project that will distribute irrigation water in all these villages for free” the MP said.

    According to officials from the ministry of water, the project dubbed “Escarpment Belt”, will be piped from Gatamaiyu river and piped through Kinale to Mbauini using the force of gravity.

    Felister Muiya from the State department of irrigation, urged locals to practice farming of high level crops such as tomatoes, onions and soya beans.

    She said the government had laid strategies of fighting cases of hunger by supporting people with irrigation water.

    Also present at the meeting was Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a, Lari deputy county commissioner Samuel Kariuki, Kijabe assistant county commissioner Nancy Kurgat as well as chiefs and assistant chiefs.

    The same meeting was also held at Matathia and Mbauini.

    Thika MP applauded Kahangara for moving fast and actualising strategies that assures locals of farming with available water at all times.

    “Lari residents from this region will never fail to farm and to sell their produces. This project will leave an impact to this region for many years to come” she said.

    The Thika MP who is also seeking for Kiambu governor seat in 2027 general elections, urged locals to elect trustworthy and development officials who will never fail the project.

    “Projects are destroyed by officials who do not have a goodwill for the society. Please elect good people” she noted.

    Ng’ang’a at the same time urged locals to remember Ruto in 2027 since he has been fulfilling promises and has been listening to the residents requests.

    She also urged residents to give her a chance to govern Kiambu county as it’s first female governor, saying that locals will never regret.

    Kahangara also applauded the Ruto for fulfilling his promising on working on Mau Mau road, saying many roads in the constituency had been tarmacked under it’s project.

    The legislator the road will add value to what will be produced from locals farms, as it will be easily transported to the market at a reduced cost.

    “Locals used to pay Sh 100 for boda boda motorcycle from Gitithia to Nyambari along the Nairobi Nakuru highway but today they pay Sh 20″ he said.

    The project chairman Sosphiter Nyenjeri said the ministry of irrigation will send some officials to train locals on how to farm.

    ” We shall need more and more lessons on farming. We cannot have such an expensive project like this, yet we are not producing anything. We need to be taught well” Nyenjeri said.

    Nyenjeri who has hinted to vie for Kijabe MCA seat, applauded Kahangara for following up with the project from the government with an aim of supporting locals.
