”My Life is in Danger”: Governor Wamatangi Appeals for Extra Security After Highway Chase

Kiambu County Governor Kimani Wamatangi has appealed to the government to increase his security detail, stating that he feels his life is in danger. The Governor explained how he was trailed this morning by an unidentified vehicle carrying three occupants until his security team managed to outmaneuver and shake them off.

The Govenor who spoke outside his home in Kibiku, Kabete village, accompanied by the leadership of the Kiambu County Assembly, lamenting that his life is now at risk.

“I have many questions, especially because I feel that my safety and my life are being targeted. That is why I am raising this issue now, so that the Inspector General of Police can review my security arrangements more effectively.”

Wamatangi detailed how, while heading to an office in Nairobi this morning, he was trailed by a vehicle with three people inside until his team managed to outmaneuver and lose them.

” Even on the highway, they tried to squeeze us and followed us closely. I could see they were determined to see what they could achieve. We were fortunate that at one point, one of my vehicles was able to block them so we could move forward while they remained stuck behind.,”

He has called upon Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja to review his protection and increase his security detail, reiterating that his life is in danger.

“And because of what I have witnessed unfolding, starting with the incidents I saw today… one thing is certain: there is an urgent need for my security to be handled more seriously than it currently is.

Kiambu County Assembly Majority Leader Godfrey Mucheke, alongside the Deputy Speaker, called for an investigation into the occupants of the vehicle and their motives for trailing the Governor. They also demanded a report on a previous incident where shots were allegedly fired near the Governor’s home and while he was en route to a public gathering.

“There must be an investigation into the bullets fired near the Governor’s home the other day. This is another incident that cannot be ignored. We are requesting with great respect as Kiambu leaders that our Governor’s life should not be placed in jeopardy. We do not want to hear about security concerns or the Governor’s guards being withdrawn or reduced. We want the IG to provide an answer by tomorrow, issue a report, and address the media to explain what happened today. As residents of Kiambu, we will not allow our Governor to be targeted, as such incidents could lead to even more serious consequences later.” Mucheke added

These concerns come just one week after Wamatangi’s properties and businesses were demolished in Nairobi. Despite this, he maintains that he will not be intimidated in his service to Kiambu County.

“I will not serve the people from inside my house; I will be out on the roads and in meetings, and I will continue with my work. What is paramount is that my security must be handled more effectively than it is now.” He added
