President William Ruto will not secure the votes he is targeting in the 2027 general elections from the Mt. Kenya region, a Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) politician has claimed.
The Kiambu County politician added that although Ruto may campaign aggressively in the Central region, he will not garner enough votes to secure a second term at State House.
Lari MP aspirant Joseph Karichu alleged yesterday that locals are disillusioned by the government’s unfulfilled promises. He cited the high cost of living, driven by heavy taxation on goods and services, as a primary grievance. Karichu also claimed that the public is suffering due to controversial changes in health insurance and higher education funding, among other issues.
Furthermore, he alleged that many roads remain untarmacked, while other projects have stalled. These incomplete infrastructure projects, he noted, pose a significant challenge to farmers, motorists, and transporters.
”I am telling you that President Ruto will not get the votes he requires from the Mt. Kenya region to return to office. He won’t get support from this region no matter how hard he campaigns,” Karichu stated.
The former Lari Kirenga MCA revealed that the opposition is working on strategies to ensure Ruto does not serve another term. He noted that DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua has been holding meetings with various leaders to discuss these tactics.
”It is too early to disclose these strategies. However, Mt. Kenya residents lost hope and faith when Gachagua was impeached by Parliament while his boss watched without intervening. That event sent a message not only to the residents of Mt. Kenya but to all Kenyans,” Karichu said.
Speaking to residents in Kimende town, Lari constituency, Karichu defended Gachagua against claims that his rhetoric is tribal. He argued that the former Deputy President speaks about the country’s interests without fear. He further noted that those attacking Gachagua are simply intimidated by his brand of politics and his willingness to tell the truth.
”Gachagua has been providing the country with accurate information. Those who fear the truth accuse the DCP leader of being tribal. They are all cowards,” he said.
He urged Ruto’s supporters to be ready to escort the Head of State back to Uasin Gishu County after the 2027 polls, predicting a loss to a new presidential candidate. Finally, the former MCA appealed to residents to preach and practice peace to ensure national coexistence.
