Mt Kenya Politician Criticizes Gachagua’s Party

A politician in the Mt Kenya region has raised concern over how politicians from the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) have been criticizing President William Ruto and his government.

This criticism is analyzed as a strategy to elevate the opposition leaders as the 2027 general elections draw near.

This issue is observed barely less than two months after former President Uhuru Kenyatta cautioned the legislators supporting the UDA government to stop hurling insults at the DCP leader, Rigathi Gachagua.

A Limuru-based politician, Stephen Waweru, who is also known as “Western,” said it was sad to notice that the DCP politicians were happy about that, but they still call Ruto different names.

Waweru noted that the residents of the Mt Kenya region are watching and following how Gachagua and his allies are handling national issues.

“It is very bad to see only a faction of politicians is obedient. The government allies are only championing what the government has done and is doing,” he said.

“But it’s sad to see our opposition brothers are still criticizing the government, calling the Head of State all manner of names instead of telling the electorate what they will do once elected to improve roads, education, health, and other sectors,” he noted.

The politician commended Ruto for his confidence, adding that he was focused on ensuring the country moves forward regardless of any critique.

“Ruto is standing strong since he has confidence that whatever his government is doing is impacting the country. His government has running projects and programs,” he said.

He further expounded that, “We are all witnessing roads like the expansion of the Kamandura-Mau Summit road, classrooms in all schools, hospitals, and markets to boost trade, thus improving the economy. There are so many issues that he has done and have even created jobs for many people.”

The politician called upon locals not to pay much attention to the opposition since it was losing track, adding that it lost a parliamentary seat because of poor coordination.

Waweru noted that a lack of coordination and the overconfidence that the opposition was popular in the Mt Kenya region led to it losing the Mbeere parliamentary seat in a by-election to the ruling party candidate.

The politician wondered, “If the opposition we are told is controlling the Mt Kenya region can lose a by-election, do you expect it to win a presidential seat and have a majority of parliamentary and Senate seats in 2027?”

He noted that people are slowly analyzing the opposition, and urged the DCP allies to start decamping to other parties and, more so, to align themselves with Ruto.

He noted that Uhuru is respected throughout the country since he loves peace, urging politicians in the Mt Kenya region to work on building peace in the country and in other parts of the country.

He also noted that it was wrong for the DCP leader to declare that all Nairobi seats should be left for one tribe, saying the city was a metropolitan region and leaders need all residents’ support.

“Politics is about competition. People of a region check on the characters competing, their strategies, and how they are handling issues during the campaign,” he said.
