The Kiambu County security apparatus has initiated investigations after Governor Kimani Wamatangi claimed that his life is in danger following a mysterious gunshot near his home last Sunday afternoon.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior county official who sits on the county security committee said that investigations have been launched to establish those behind the alarming incident and the motive behind the shooting.

“I don’t want to be quoted because I’m yet to get the finer details of the matter. The spent bullet has been availed to us, and we shall brief the media after conducting thorough investigations,” said the source.

The source, however, downplayed the governor’s assertions that his life is in danger and that the incident might be politically instigated.

“Why magnify the incident when the action was not in his compound? If anything, it’s the neighbour who is supposed to be claiming that their life is in danger,” said the source.

“The question investigations will center on is who has guns in the neighbourhood. As it stands, only the governor’s security personnel are licensed firearm holders in that area, and hence they are the ones we shall question first,” added the source.

On Tuesday, December 02, 2025, Wamatangi expressed fear for his life after a mysterious gunshot was fired near his family’s home in Kibiko, Kabete Constituency, on Sunday afternoon.

The bullet struck a neighbour’s house, located about 40 meters away, prompting fears that the attack may have been targeted at him.
According to Wamatangi, the incident occurred shortly after he returned from a church service, and about 30 minutes earlier, he had interrupted suspicious individuals cutting down trees with a power saw on his nearby farm.

He has condemned the attack, describing it as “mysterious” and possibly politically motivated.

Last week, during President William Ruto’s launch of the Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit road, Wamatangi was cheered jubilantly by residents of Limuru who had gathered at Manguo stadium to witness the exercise.
Reportedly, local politicians who had been given funds to mobilize attendees were given a tongue-lashing by the President after the event, as it emerged that the event was attended by a majority of Wamatangi supporters.

Meanwhile, the governor has linked the gunshot attack to his efforts to curb corruption and graft in the county, claiming that individuals he had barred from enriching themselves using public resources have been sending him threatening messages.
He had previously accused critics of using state agencies to harass him, labeling investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) as a “political witch-hunt”.

Wamatangi has issued a seven-day ultimatum to security agencies to investigate the incident, find the culprits, and establish a motive, warning that failure to act within a week may be interpreted as negligence or complicity.
