As the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations conclude this week, the government has given assurances that the integrity of the results will be fully safeguarded.
Speaking in Kiambu County while supervising the opening of Geography and Physics exam papers at the Ruiru Deputy County Commissioner’s (DCC) offices, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Migos Ogamba maintained that preparations for the marking process are underway.
The CS revealed that center managers have been given strict directives to reinforce operational discipline, including switching off and securely locking away all mobile phones.
He was accompanied by Ruiru Member of Parliament (MP) Simon King’ara and other Ministry officials.
The CS also addressed several other key educational issues. He announced that senior secondary schools would receive their first cohort of learners by January 12th next year. Ogamba stressed that these learners, transitioning under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), will require support as they join their colleagues currently undertaking the 8-4-4 curriculum.
Regarding reported conflicts between Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers and secondary school heads, the CS stated that the matter is being handled administratively and assured the public there is no cause for concern.
Ogamba also highlighted the ongoing verification exercise by the Ministry concerning school enrollment figures. He explained that this process would enable the government to ensure fairness in the distribution of resources across all areas of the country.
This effort, he noted, is critical to ensure densely populated regions like Ruiru receive adequate teachers and essential infrastructure such as laboratories and libraries.
Ruiru MP Simon King’ara commended the government for actively addressing congestion in public schools within his constituency and for committing to post more teachers and enhance infrastructure.
The legislator pointed out that some of the institutions set to benefit include the Ruiru Vocational Training College and Ruiru Boys Secondary School, where hostels are currently under construction.
