The fact that the country’s universities and tertiary institutions are pumping thousands of graduates into the job market every year is not in doubt.
Consequently, to navigate through the challenging job market with next to zero job opportunities, graduates have no option but to focus on job creation.
Juliana Rotich, a technology and entrepreneurship practitioner, inspires the youth to consider becoming job creators rather than solely seeking nonexistent job opportunities.
Speaking during St. Paul’s University’s 34th graduation, themed “Empowering Ethical Leaders through Faith, Innovation, and Lifelong Learning,” she advised graduates to leverage technology and entrepreneurship.
“My passionate appeal to you all is that you use the skills and knowledge you have acquired here to make a difference in society,” she said.
A total of 2,500 graduands were conferred Degrees and awarded Diplomas and Certificates, having fully satisfied the requirements of the University Senate.
Ms. Juliana further observed that this graduation at the Christian-based facility and many others across the country is happening in a year and decade characterized by volatility, complexity, and ambiguity because of the rapid disruption that is outpacing institutions’ ability to predict, prepare, and protect future technology trends.
The University Council Chair, His Grace The Most Rev. Dr. Jackson Ole Sapit emphasized the relevance and significance of this year’s theme by stating that it captures St. Paul’s as a Christian university and what it places at the centre of its formation: character, creativity, and continuous growth.
He further noted that faith is not mere sentiment but a moral compass that guides decisions and sustains integrity in both public and private life, and the adoption of technologies is what can unlock solutions to long-standing problems.
Hon. Prof. Margaret Kobia, who is the university’s Chancellor, shared her deep gratitude and pride for the long-standing legacy of the university that is grounded in both academic rigor and spiritual growth.
“St. Paul’s University is not just another institution; it is a sanctuary where minds are challenged, values are nurtured, and futures are shaped with purpose.”
The Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Canon Prof. James Kombo, made reference to the milestones and achievements of the university and commended all staff, students, and partners.
“St. Paul’s University is among the few institutions in the region with an accredited state-of-the-art Virtual Campus,” he said.
