Hon. Machua Waithaka, Member of Parliament for Kiambu Constituency, has rallied local youth to apply for the newly reopened National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) project. This initiative, a collaborative effort between the Government of Kenya and the World Bank, aims to uplift the livelihoods of vulnerable and marginalized Kenyan youth through targeted skill-building and employment pathways.

The NYOTA program targets young Kenyans aged 18-29, with an extended age limit of up to 35 for those with disabilities. Applications reopened today and will run through October 12, 2025. The program offers a transformative opportunity, particularly for underserved groups, encouraging eligible youth to act quickly with only six days remaining in the application window.

Eligibility criteria include being a Kenyan citizen with a national ID card and not having progressed beyond secondary education. This focus ensures equitable access for those without higher qualifications. For youth with disabilities, the age ceiling of 35 years broadens opportunities in a demographic often overlooked in traditional job markets.

Interested individuals can apply by dialing *254# and following the prompts for a seamless registration process. Additional resources are available on the official website, www.nyotaproject.go.ke, which provides detailed guidelines and FAQs. Constituents are also invited to visit the Ndumberi ICT Hub for in-person information sessions and support.

Since its inception, NYOTA has empowered thousands of young Kenyans with vocational training in sectors like agriculture, digital skills, and entrepreneurship, fostering self-reliance in rural and urban communities alike. In Kiambu, where youth unemployment remains a pressing challenge, the program’s reopening is seen as a lifeline, potentially injecting fresh talent into the local economy. As applications are expected to surge, experts urge eligible youth to act swiftly to avoid missing out. For more details, visit www.nyotaproject.go.ke or dial *254#.
