Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Charles Thiong’o has officially announced his candidacy for the Githunguri Constituency seat, currently held by Gathoni Wamuchomba. Thiong’o, who previously ran for the same position but lost during nominations, believes his experience as Speaker has prepared him for this moment.
During the launch of street lights and a modern market at Githiga shopping centre, alongside Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, Thiong’o emphasized the need for new leadership to drive progress in Githunguri. He highlighted his vision to transform the milk and coffee sectors, which form the backbone of the constituency’s economy.
Reflecting on his tenure as Speaker amid the challenges of Kiambu’s turbulent political landscape, Thiong’o expressed confidence in his ability to win the seat. However, he remained reserved about his choice of political party, stating he would reveal his decision at the appropriate time.
Githunguri Constituency holds a prominent place in Kenyan politics, with a legacy shaped by former MPs and cabinet ministers such as Waiyaki Munyua, Arthur Magugu, Njehu Gatabaki, and Njoroge Baiya. Thiong’o’s announcement signals a competitive race ahead in this influential region.
