Ngegu-Kanunga Twin Tragedies: Football Stabbing and Matatu Crash on New Road Claim Lives

Two individuals died in separate incidents near Ngegu and Kanunga villages—one in a fatal stabbing over a Manchester United-Chelsea match, and another in a crash involving a Bakaki Sacco matatu van on the newly recarpeted Kiambu Kanunga Boma Road.

A wave of tragedy struck Ngegu and Kanunga villages this morning, claiming two lives in unrelated incidents.

Last evening in Gituamba village, Stephen Mathia Njoroge was fatally stabbed by James Mbugua during a heated argument over a Premier League match between Manchester United and Chelsea, which ended in a 2-1 draw. The dispute turned violent, shattering the calm of the typically quiet village.

Eyewitnesses confirmed the clash stemmed from the football rivalry, with the situation escalating rapidly.

In a separate tragedy in Ngegu village, Peninah Wairimu died in a road accident involving a matatu van belonging to Bakaki Sacco on the recently recarpeted Kiambu-Kanunga Boma Road. Locals have noted a spike in accidents since the road’s resurfacing, blaming increased speeds on the smoother surface. Residents, particularly those in Umoja Estate near the Car Bazaar, are now pressing the road authority to install speed bumps to enhance safety. Police officers from Kiambu Police Station were deployed to secure the crash site and Kiambu Level 5 Hospital, where the incident drew significant attention.

Authorities reported that at least 12 other victims from the crash were admitted to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital, where they remain in stable condition.
