Kiambu County marked Youth Day 2025 with a vibrant celebration of innovation and talent, as Governor Dr. Kimani Wamatangi announced a transformative package of initiatives to empower the county’s Gen-Z population.

The highlight was the launch of a KSh 800 million fund to support young people in digital technology, innovation, business, and creative pursuits such as content creation, music, art, fashion, and sports. The fund includes an initial KSh 300 million revolving allocation from the county, bolstered by an additional KSh 500 million through a partnership with Kenya Commercial Bank. Governor Wamatangi emphasized that the fund will provide accessible financing to drive youth-led ventures, fostering economic growth and self-reliance.

The governor also unveiled plans to revive the stalled amphitheatre at Kirigiti Stadium, transforming it into a creative hub with a modern recording studio to support local musicians and artists. A similar facility is planned for Thika to ensure broader access across the county. “These spaces will give our youth the tools to turn their passions into professions,” Wamatangi said.

Showcasing innovation, the county highlighted youth-developed digital applications set to enhance Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) with interactive learning tools, agriculture with improved farming practices, and waste management with sustainable solutions. These apps, selected for adoption by the county, aim to improve public services while creating opportunities for their creators.

The Youth Day event also featured the Mr. and Miss Youth Kiambu 2025 Pageant, with winners named as ambassadors for youth advocacy. Attendees displayed projects in digital tech, art, agriculture, fashion, and sports, highlighting the diverse talents of Kiambu’s Gen-Z.

With these initiatives, Kiambu County is positioning itself as a leader in youth empowerment, aligning with national goals for digital transformation and economic inclusion. The fund and infrastructure projects are set to roll out in the coming months, promising a brighter future for the county’s youth.
