The Kikuyu Council of Elders known locally as Kiama Kia Ma, has lauded President William Ruto’s decision to compensate families affected by anti-government protests since 2017, pleading with the government to support children of those parents who lost their lives during the unrest.

Led by their chairperson Kariuki Kibathi, the elders said that there is a need for the government to hold dialogue with young people, particularly members of Generation Z, and to seek a lasting solution to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

Kibathi urged politicians to promote peace instead of using inflammatory language that incites violence and division, warning it would only harm the nation rather than build it.

His sentiments were echoed by newly installed Kikuyu elder Nderi Karanja, who called on the youth to shun leaders who only seek to manipulate and exploit them for their own selfish political agendas.
