Kiambu NG-CDF Lights Up Schools with Solar, Enhances Security and Learning Environment

The Kiambu National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) is transforming public schools by installing solar power systems to slash electricity costs, alongside comprehensive upgrades including perimeter walls, modern gates, and improved infrastructure, aiming to create safer and more conducive learning environments for students.

Kiambu, Kenya – The Kiambu National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) has launched an initiative to equip public schools with solar power systems, aiming to significantly reduce electricity expenses. This move is part of a broader effort to enhance the overall learning environment and security within the constituency’s educational institutions.

Kiambu Member of Parliament, Machua Waithaka, recently highlighted the benefits of this undertaking during the handover of three completed projects: solar lighting systems, perimeter wall fencing, and modern school gates at Tinganga Primary School and HGM Secondary Schools. Waithaka noted that these schools were previously incurring electricity bills exceeding KSh 25,000 monthly.
“We are embracing green energy, which will substantially cut down on electricity bills,” Waithaka stated. “Schools will have continuous lighting, unaffected by power outages. This will save over KSh 300,000 annually per school, funds that can then be redirected to other pressing needs.”
The MP also announced plans to extend these solar connections to all schools, including nearby churches.

Beyond solar power, the NG-CDF has been actively constructing perimeter walls and installing modern gates to bolster school security and foster a sense of dignity and order. “For a long time, many schools lacked proper perimeter walls and gates to secure them. We embarked on this mission to ensure our schools are dignified, with modern gates and concrete perimeter walls that will guarantee the safety of our children,” Waithaka explained.

Further enhancements are on the horizon, with commitments to provide all schools with new roofing, tiled floors in classrooms, and cabro paving within school compounds by December of this year. “We are dedicated to ensuring our students and pupils have an excellent learning environment. We want our children to feel comfortable and eager to be in school,” he affirmed.

These transformative projects are fully funded by the NG-CDF Kiambu and implemented by MobileMART Systems, symbolizing a commitment to hope, safety, and sustainability for learners in the region.
In addition to infrastructure development, Waithaka announced a KSh 300,000 injection into the Irene Mbugua bursary fund. This supplemental fund will complement the main NG-CDF bursary kitty, aiming to reach a greater number of deserving students within the constituency. “The late Irene was my steadfast supporter, and I have vowed to continue her noble gesture of ensuring our children receive an education,” he shared.

The handover ceremony was graced by Father Dominic, the priest in charge of Ting’ang’a Catholic Parish, who offered prayers and blessed the projects, emphasizing the importance of grounding development in faith. Tinganga MCA Mwaura Napoleon was also in attendance.
