The Kamukunji Police Station’s Gender Office is currently investigating a serious complaint filed by a Kariokor resident against a matatu driver operating on the Ruiru–Nairobi route. The woman alleges the driver attempted to sexually assault her during a trip.
The victim, whose name has been withheld by authorities, stated that she had finished her work day at Tatu City and boarded a matatu heading home. While she could not recall the vehicle’s registration number, the sequence of events she reported led to the driver being identified.
According to the police report, the alleged attempted assault occurred when the matatu reached the Muthaiga area. The complainant told police that the driver’s attempt to rape her was unsuccessful.
The driver subsequently dropped the woman off in Kariokor. She immediately proceeded to the Kamukunji Police Station to report the incident. A crucial piece of evidence emerged when she realized the mobile money fare she had paid reflected a man’s name provided by the driver.
The entire case has now been officially taken over by the station’s Gender Office, and police have confirmed the matter is under active investigation.
